MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH HAIR TRANSPLANTS
BY ROBERT YOHO, M.D.
I was over at a friend’s office at his request in order to remove a bit of hair from the back of his head and transplant it to a bald spot that he was developing. I met his very nice technicians and saw them perform a beautiful hair transplant for my friend. They used magnification and were able to make the little hair grafts almost perfectly without damaging the hair follicles. Then after I made the slits in my friend’s bald spot, they carefully inserted about 600 grafts. My friend had an uneventful recovery and stated that the small incision that I made to take the hair grafts from the back of his head did beautifully and he cannot find it in the mirror.
Because of my confidence and the technicians were so high and my friend had such a good experience the next time I went over to my friend’s office it was my turn. I laid down on the table on my front. I had local anesthetic inserted in my scalp and the strip of hair was carefully removed by the surgeon. After this, the area was sawn shut in 2 layers and the hair was treated by the technicians in the same way they had done before for the other surgeon. The tiny grafts were inserted in the areas, which were balding at the sides of my scalp and after they were done the count of the grafts was 635. In about 4 months, I noticed the sides of my scalp filling in and now I look great. The hair is very natural and although a hair transplant surgeon could certainly tell these were transplanted hairs, everyone else is fooled.
